Will a Massage Chair Fit? User Height, Doorways, and Reclining Space
A massage chair needs to fit in three ways: it must suit the person using it, pass through the delivery route, and have enough room to operate. Check all three before choosing a model. The size shown in a product photograph cannot answer those questions.
This guide explains how to compare the manufacturer’s measurements for our new Infinity and Kyota chairs and what information to gather before ordering.

1. Check the intended users
Record the height and weight of each adult who plans to use the chair. Compare those numbers with the model’s recommended user range and maximum weight. Then look at seat depth, hip width, shoulder width, and the footrest adjustment described in the manual.
Height ranges are a useful first filter. For example, Kyota lists the Genki M380 for users from 4 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches, while the Kansha M878 is listed from 5 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 9 inches. Both list a 300-pound maximum. Neither range should be treated as a promise that every person within it will feel equally comfortable.
For shared use, check the shortest and tallest intended users first. If either is near a stated limit, contact us to review the model before ordering. A body-scanning feature does not remove the need to check the physical seat and footrest.
2. Measure the chair in its working position
Use the fully reclined dimensions to lay out the chair’s operating space. Measure width, depth, and height, then follow the manual’s additional clearance requirements. Keep a usable path for entering and leaving the chair and moving through the room.

The increase in depth is the difference between the two published dimensions. It is not a separate installation clearance and should not be added twice. The manufacturer’s complete setup instructions determine where the chair can be placed.
Use painter’s tape to mark the reclined footprint on the floor. Walk through the room, open nearby doors, and check the furniture around it. Include space for the intended chair movements and footrest adjustment described in the manual. A rear-wall-clearance claim does not describe the total space needed in front.
3. Trace the entire delivery route
Start where the carrier can unload and follow the path to the intended room. Record the narrowest opening and the tightest turn, not just the front door. The information is most useful when you combine measurements with clear photos of the route.
- Doorways: measure the actual clear opening with the door open, including obstructions from hinges, handles, or trim.
- Hallways and corners: record width and turning space, including the area opposite a doorway.
- Stairs: note the number of steps, stair width, turns, landings, handrails, and overhead clearance.
- Elevators: check the opening and interior dimensions, building rules, and any reservation requirements.
- Outdoor access: describe gates, uneven surfaces, long paths, or restrictions on delivery vehicles.
Ask for the current carton dimensions and the configuration in which the exact chair will arrive. A finished chair may be delivered in one or more cartons, and the moving orientation matters. Never assume that removing parts is allowed or sufficient; confirm the manufacturer’s instructions and the delivery team’s agreed scope.
What if two specifications disagree?
Pause the fit decision and confirm the dimension that matters for your delivery. Kyota’s Genki web page currently lists a 31-inch width while its linked brochure shows 30 inches. That difference is enough to matter in a tight opening. It is a reason to verify the current unit and packaging, not to choose the smaller number because it fits your plan.
